Runner is the term used for players within the neocron universe. In a story sense, it refers to citizens who have rejected the normal life of a stable job with one of the many companies in Neocron, or even the surrounding village and the small group of civillians who live and work in the Dome. Instead, they become freelance mercenaries, aligning themselves with one of the powerful factions, performing such tasks as may be offered by their faction, another faction or even individuals for money and fame. The factions find runners useful as their actions are entirley deniable - any runner does tasks on their own will, rarely on orders - so they can and ofter are used for the "dirty work" that factions have noone else who is either capable or willing to do. Generally, runner are looked down upon as the lowest class of citizen, barely more worthy of consideration than the beggars on the streets. However the potential rewards for runners are also great - exceptional wealth is availble to those who acheive it, and some runners become important members of their faction or famed to all people.
