Gabanium

In 2120, scientists discovered that they can trigger a chemical reaction by adding a complex gas mixture to the atmosphere of planet. The process will terraform the planet's atmosphere, making breathable within 300 years. The gas mixture is called Gabanium for its developer, Dr. Gloria Gaban.

Gabanium was first used to terraform Mars in 2120, unfortunately the release of Gabanium on Mars stimulated the growth of a lethal virus which by 2212 had wiped out the Red Terra colony.

In 2137 a probe containing enough Gabanium to to terraform the planet was sent Irata III. This had the desired effect and resulted in a breathable atmosphere with no signs of the virus reported.
