The preacher is used to a lonely life, because he cant count on the help of a team, he is training his passive and offensive psionic abilities. Even though he cannot compete in either field with a specialist, he is an extremely tough opponent because he is such an extremely flexible solo fighter. Not that he would be lost within a team, but a team is served better with a specialist.
