The Newplayer project is working towards a downloadable resource detailing every aspect of a new runners life, from being "born" in Area-MC5 to their first Jones Mission and the factional Epic Missions. This article will be dedicated to the development of a roadmap to determine what a new player would want to read about, and how we might go about developing a series of articles explaining the basics of the game.
Aim: The project aim is to decrease the steep learning curve of the game, and enable new runners to pick up the basics in a fast easy and comprehendable game, this should include external mechanics such as the HUD and what each part means, through to an interactive city com guide and links to all the Jones Missions.
Time-frame: This project aims to be completed by the end of Summer 2008 - with the development of a downloadable new players .pdf file by Q3/Q4 2008.
Roadmap
- Development of an interactive guide on the wiki for the HUD, including (possibly most importantly) how to change the default channels to include the HELP> channel.
- Short guide on which class to choose and why - possibly an interactive flow chart to choose your first character - dependant on how you want to play
- Profession guide, and short guide to the history of the factions, and the current politics of the factions
- Guides for MC5, including detailed maps of the areas with hotspots, and detailed mission guides - also possibly include here information on what the NPCs have to say about individual professions.
- Eventually a LaTeX based pdf file with all the information required for a new runner to understand the game - a more up to date (and unofficial) version of the manual.
