Introduction
The hacknet is a special virtual world for people skilled that turns hacking into a combat skill. All classes except Gentanks can enter it. Hacknet is divided into two types: leveling areas and the Net. Level areas are small 'rooms' filled with mobs players can fight and collect rare code fragments available from special Security Login terminals and Faction DNS. The Net is the global network where runners can travel between Outposts and main Neocron locations for free.
Hacknet Rules
Hacknet turns everything into cyberspace, similar to the movie Matrix. While from a glance it's similar to regular combat, there are some differences.
First of all, any items that are not hacknet equipment will not be usable. This includes any consumables like drugs or medkits. Your skills will also work a little differently. Stamina pool is unchanged, but PSI pool is replaced by HCK energy. HCK Energy, its regeneration rate is dictated by INT and hacking levels. Health pool in the hacknet is increased by runner's Body health but also by hacking. Armor does not provide any resistances, Resist energy and Resist xray will decrease damage taken however. All implants except Crahn 'Novice' Gauntlet and LAW Enforcer #1 will stop functioning. Bonuses and penalties affecting PSI regen and pools also affect the HCK energy.
Hacknet combat
Combat in the Hacknet works on the same principle as PSI Combat. Runners can buy 3 types of combat software: Attack Software, Regeneration Software and Defense Software which is only useable inside Hacknet.
Attack software is only used to attack mobs and runners. It works on the same principle as the Bolt module, after a short delay a pulse is sent towards the target dealing Energy and X-ray damage.
Regeneration software heals runners over time. Heal cannot be stacked or refreshed while its duration holds so don't overcast it. Its PSI equivalent is PSI heal or healing nanite injector.
Defense software reduces Energy and X-ray damage taken. It's PSI Equivalent is Absorber.
Regeneration and Defence software have also a Multilink version that applies their effects in a small area around the user.
Accessing Hacknet
You can enter the Net by hacking a GeneReplicator or Security Login terminal with a skill from about 30 with a Hacktool. When you hacked the GR, you will enter your Faction DNS.
Faction DNS
The Faction DNS is the center of your faction network. From here you can travel to Infected Storages level areas, faction database or exit to Mainframe where you can then reach other factions DNS or Outer Network. In the Outer Network you can travel to Outposts. Finally, there is a logout portal that leads directly to your faction's HQ. Warning, once you enter the hacknet though the GR, there is no way to go back to the GR you came in.
This is also one of the prime areas for hunting Code Fragment #Spine-001 to Code Fragment #Spine-006 for the Spine Mark-6 Codebreaker from the mobs.
Faction Database
Each Faction has Unique Items to download from the Database. The Firewall High Security is located on the highest point of the Faction DNS.
To download items from a database you need High Capacity Datacube - TL 90 that you an buy from any Faction Supply Manager. When you want to download items from a foreign database (not your faction) you also need Spine Mark-6 Codebreaker that is consumed on use. The datacube works as a regular Blueprint cube and requires Constructor to build the item, but the parts needed for the build need to be bought from Faction Supply Manager.
Code Fragment #Spine-001 to Code Fragment #Spine-006 for the Spine Mark-6 Codebreaker drop from the ICD V2.2.2 of each Faction.
A popular way to get things out of a foreign faction database is to make an alt in Hacker profession that starts with the Hacktool, transfer the Datacube to it, download the stuff then delete the char. Mobs inside your own faction database won't attack the player.
